About the Genée

The competition that launched the careers of The Royal Ballet’s Steven McRae and Francesca Hayward (amongst others) returns to London. Witness the talent and the artistry as some of the most gifted young dancers follow in their steps.

After five days of working with top professional choreographers and teachers, the Semi-finals decide which dancers go on to compete for the bronze, silver and gold medals on the Sadler’s Wells stage. Competitors will also contend for the Choreographic Award, sponsored by Mondor, and the very popular Margot Fonteyn Audience Choice Award, sponsored by Freed.

The Semi-finals take place on 16 & 17 September at Stratford Circus Arts Centre, with the Final at Sadler’s Wells on 19 September.

This year’s judging panel is Dame Monica Mason DBE, former Director of The Royal Ballet; David Bintley CBE, Artistic Director of the Birmingham Royal Ballet; David Nixon OBE, Artistic Director of Northern Ballet; and Jeanetta Laurence OBE, Associate Director of The Royal Ballet.

The Commissioned Choreographer will be Charlotte Edmonds, the first member of The Royal Ballet’s Young Choreographer Programme.
